Bathrooms are the room where decorative details are most often left out — and where they can make the biggest difference. Steam, condensation and splashes rule out some traditional materials, but with the right products a bathroom ceiling and walls can be finished as neatly as any living room. Here is what works, and what to watch for.
A bathroom cycles between warm steam and cool air several times a day. Traditional plaster mouldings can suffer in this environment, and timber-based trims may swell or distort over time. The materials you choose need to cope with humidity without losing their shape or finish.
XPS (Extruded Polystyrene) coving is a closed-cell foam, so it does not absorb water the way plaster or timber-based materials do. It is also very light, which means adhesive-only fixing — no drilling into tiled or moisture-sensitive walls. Two practical notes:
For profile options, see our DV-U0 Series and GC Series LED coving ranges.
LED coving is particularly effective in bathrooms. A strip of indirect light above the coving line gives a calm, even glow for an evening bath, while your main light stays available for everyday use. Choose an LED strip rated for bathroom zones and have any electrical work carried out to regulation.
Around mirrors and vanity areas, PVC mirror tiles offer a waterproof decorative surface that wipes clean — a practical alternative to a large glass mirror in a small bathroom.
The general method is the same as any room — the full walkthrough is in How to Fit Coving.
If you are unsure how a profile will look above tiles, order a sample and hold it against the wall-ceiling junction. Bathrooms are small spaces; seeing the scale in place before you order avoids surprises.
